Eclipse is open source! Eclipse is a very flexible and extendable framework for building development environments. Eclipse is developed by OTI (the famous company that build ENVY). If you wan't to find out more about Eclipse, please visit www.eclipse.org.
One key feature of Eclipse is it's extensibility by adding plugins to the core engine. JDT (Java Development Tooling) is an example of an development environment build on Eclipse. JDT is also developed by OTI and is "open source" as well.
Since it is very easy to extend and customize Eclipse or JDT by adding own plugins, many developers will program useful plugins that are interesting to other developers.
X-Parrots wants to push the Eclipse platform. Therefore we develop plugins to extend its functionality and to do our part for the success of Eclipse.
